treehouse café

  • Project Type: Community website

  • Client: Josh Brem-Wilson (Member of the treehouse café staff)

  • Description: This project was done during the "Design for Industry" course at the University of Bradford. The treehouse café is a fairtrade cafe located in Bradford, United Kingdom. A major challenge was to communicate the cafe's unique "organic" atmosphere through the website.

The content structure was set up to validate XHTML 1.0 Transitional. The design is based on a fixed width layout which was built with CSS. In addition to the user front end, the website features a custom-built content management system to comfortably edit particular data sets. Further features that are worth mentioning include an AJAX shoutbox, semi-transparent CSS drop down menus, a forum, and a photo gallery. Most parts of the website were created together with Gregor Meyenberg who was responsible for the programming while I was responsible for the overall website design and the creation of XSLT templates. The other three teammembers supported us by providing for example some simple flash games which were integrated into the site but they were mainly responsible for creating a leaflet, a film about the cafe, and a recipe book. At the end of the allocated project time everything was presented in front of treehouse café members and university staff and students.
